If the corruption was in the audio portion, it will open properly, just with all audio tracks and modifications absent from the project. Save and close the copied project, then try to open it using iMovie.In the copied project, highlight and use "Edit > Cut" to remove all the audio data (which, remember, is everything from where the lines begin with "Music:" or "Voice:" to the end of the project.Open the copied project in TextEdit (launch TextEdit and use "File > Open" from within that app to open the iMovie file).

This is trial and error, and consists of creating a copy of the iMovie project file and removing smaller and smaller portions of the file until it opens properly with the minimum amount removed. Now comes the slightly tedious part - finding the corruption. "After a minute or two of scanning over these, it becomes apparent where things start and end. "The header info, which is all text up until the first line starting with "Clip:" The video clip info, which lists every clip in the clip pane, with each clip beginning with the "Clip:" or "Shelf:" The audio clip info, which is everything starting with "Music:" or "Voice:" Project files can easily be opened via TextEdit, and their sections can be readily ascertained: "First thing to know is that the iMovie project file itself is a flat text file(!) that dictates the sequencing and modifications made to the original clip files, which live in the "Media" folder of each project. While we've yet to to track down an exact cause for this issue related to sleep, MacFixIt reader Doug Alexander has some excellent suggestions for rescuing corrupt, or otherwise unreadable iMovie files: In one case, a user put his machine to sleep, and upon waking it later, found his iMovie project unable to open, with the error message "Your project file is not readable" displayed.
